Weekly Wrap-Up Week of 10/6

What a week!  Thankfully we got a lot done on Monday and Tuesday or I would have nothing to share with you!  C  had an eye appointment on Wednesday, and I expected it to take a couple hours of our morning and then we could have school at the library.  She is very farsighted, and has an eye that crosses when looking at things up close.  At our last check up, only 3 months ago, both eyes were testing even with the glasses on which was great - no crossing!

This week though, after only 3 months her left eye wasn't testing as strong as the right and there was some slight turning.  We got a prescription for new glasses and have to come back again in three months.  I really wanted to go ahead and get her glasses that day so she has time to adjust to them and hopefully have them working well for her by the next appointment.  Her prescription was too strong to get filled at the local 2 hour places, and we ended up going to store to store finding frames C liked.  It was so much easier when she was 2 and didn't care what they looked like!

Well long story-still kinda long -(sorry!) we never made it to the library to do school on Wednesday!

Now, on to what we did accomplish this week!

We had another outside school day this week.  First, I let her run a few laps around the playground to get her energy out before we started to work.  I timed her laps, which she loved but it also made it harder to get started because she wanted to beat her last time, every time!

We measured sticks, leaves, grass and the swing's seat with unifix cubes.  It took C a little bit to warm up to the idea of measuring with something other than a ruler - she likes things to be done correctly!

In Calvert they are reviewing colors, which is something she has had mastered for quite awhile, so I turned it into a graphing activity.  C tried to think of as many different foods she could for each color and then we made a graph on the sidewalk.

The Calvert Language Arts is also too simple for C so I am supplementing with Phonics By The Book by This Reading Mama.   C can already read all the books in the set well, but I am using it to help her become more familiar with the patterns and rules in words to help her writing.

This week we received our package from Giggle Bunny's Reading Lesson and I hope to have the review post up this week.  This is the program we used to teach C to read and I couldn't be happier with the results. Right now, she is sitting next to me reading a chapter book at 5 years old!  We only used the main lesson book so I am excited to get to see  all of the other products they offer.

The great people at Giggle Bunny's Reading Lesson are also going to be giving away one full package to one you!  Be sure to like me on facebook, or follow me by e-mail (there is a box on the right sidebar to put in your e-mail) so you don't miss this great giveaway!

    1. Thanks! C loves to run - I am thinking of getting her into a local running group for kids when she is a bit older...if she is still into running. :)

  5. Sounds like you had a great week, in spite of the glitch in your plans on the day of your daughter's eye appt. I can relate to that whole experience because our oldest daughter began wearing glasses as a baby due to a lazy/crossed eye. She's all grown up now and and beautiful woman, so hang in there mom and keep doing what you are doing!
