I had imagined that their would be a Home Depot employee going around helping the kids but that was not the case! Their was an employee at a table handing out the supplies and aprons but it was pretty much up to the parents to help the kids follow the directions. I was the only mom there, all the other kids came with their dad or grandpa. I felt like the pressure was on to succeed!
Thankfully we were able to complete our project without any trouble. It was pretty simple. :) If you have a Home Depot near you, I highly suggest taking your kids to the workshops. Tomorrow we are going to make a tic-tac-toe game.
We had a treat this week, my husband had the week off of work. It was so nice to have him around! He joined in a bit during school time. He has a bachelors degree in pure math and enjoys teaching it to her. Unfortunately for him, C isn't a big fan of math and isn't really willing to do it when school time is over.
He took the opportunity to take over math this week. He taught her how to add double digits, she was able to solve problems on her own after just a few tries!
On Tuesday, we took a trip to the zoo to see the Christmas lights. It was gorgeous and so much fun! C got to touch this baby boa constrictor, I passed.
I loved this family project we did one day last week. We made a book! C was the author, my husband was the illustrator and I was the publisher. The book is called, "Snow White and the Wolf." There are only a couple pages but we plan to add more to it.
Thanks so much for visiting Joy Focused Learning! What were your favorite activities this week?

ReplyDeleteWow, I didn't realize there wasn't someone helping you at the home depot kids days. I really want to take my kids (one at a time) but sheesh, that is pressure. I'm not super good with woodworking and tools so.... I am worried about who I would ask if I got stuck. I love the box though . she did a fantastic job!
I think it's great that she is learning how to use tools and be comfortable. There are so many things around the house that she can fix and save tons of money (when she is older).
Thank you so much for sharing at the homeschoollinkup!
I love our little book project too! We need to add more to it. :)
ReplyDeleteThere is a Home Depot employee stationed at a table nearby, you could probably ask him if you needed help. It wasn't too bad, we only had to use wood glue, nails and a hammer. :) She had a lot of fun! I'm thinking of getting some little tools to keep in her tool box for Christmas.
Thanks for stopping by the blog! :)
