Homeschool Highlights From the Last Few Weeks

I haven't posted a weekly wrap-up in awhile. Fridays have just been really busy! We have been having a lot of fun during school time though, here are some highlights from the last few weeks.

Build it Yourself Woodworking Kit: Train

We have loved the Build it Yourself kit from Lakeshore that C got for Christmas.  Our most recent project was the train, C has enjoyed making every project so far!

Pretend Play

The other day at rest time, C set up a little store for her dolls.  She made price tags for everything and assigned prices.  It was so cute!

Beginner Sewing Project: Stuffed Heart

On Valentine's Day, C sewed a cute little stuffed heart.  I gave her the option to leave it blank, sew a pocket on the front or give it a face.  This was her first time sewing with a real needle, she did an excellent job!

Creative Writing

One day this week, I let C choose her own topic for writing.  She excitedly told me she was going to write about unicorns.  I was surprised to see that she changed her mind and wrote about playing Paper Mario.  She plays every once in awhile with her daddy!  You can see the actual spelling in the photo but this is what she wrote:

"Mario had 6 hp and 10 hearts. He was about to ask Goombario a question.  Mario was asking which move he should do.  Goombario said hammer.  It was a good idea."

Originally she stopped at "He was about to ask Goombario a question."  I told her I wanted to know more so she added the last three sentences.  I love it!

Field Trip to the Aquarium!

We visited the Newport Aquarium this past weekend.  It was so much fun!  I would love to come back on a week day.  It was just so busy that we weren't able to take our time and observe as much as we wanted.  C was thrilled to take my old camera and snap a few photos herself!  She was particularly excited to see and photograph the white alligators.  You can see her photos below!

I hope I will be able to get back into the routine of posting a wrap-up post each Friday.  I know I always enjoy seeing what other homeschoolers do with their school time.  What have you and your kiddos been up to?  Leave me a comment and let me know!  Thank you so much for visiting Joy Focused Learning!
